For many American movie productions, the Chinese box office can be the difference between global domination and total defeat. Bolstered by the growth of 3D movies (which were able to slip more easily past censors and regulations as "amusements" rather than "films"), the reationship between Hollywood and Shanghai is kind of amazing, and resulted in some genuinely surprising hits overseas. Fascinated by this phenomenon, I went over to and checked their yearly Box Office numbers in the Land of the Red Dragon.

Some of the results surprised me, but will they surprise you?
