Article Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Videogame Villains of All-Time

By Andrew Bridgman / March 6, 2014

Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Videogame Villains of AllTime

After over 850,000 votes of the most twisted and evil villains in videogame history, you - THE VOTER (aka NOT THE WRITER OF THIS ARTICLE) - have decided the top 20 virtual bad guys ever. Don't agree with the results (which, again, are not the choices of me, the guy writing this)? Sound off below about why YOUR favorite evil clown was unfairly ranked!

20. Dysentery (The Oregon Trail)

  best villains

There are many deadly enemies in the original edutainment hit, Oregon Trail: river fordings, meager rations, Mrs. Henderson making you leave the computer lab - but none come close to the danger of dysentery. Really, there's not much you can do to avoid dysentery other than sleep and eat a lot - and it could still strike even then. It's random and unavoidable and can wipe out members of your party like it's nothing. At least with river crossings, you have the CHOICE whether or not you want to ford it (and guarantee losing one of your travel pals). Dysentery is cruel and unstoppable - murderous and unfeeling...

Kind of like "you" when you see a buffalo during a hunt. C'mon dude - you've already hit 400 lbs. this round, you KNOW you can't carry any more back.

Article Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Fictional Detectives of All-Time

By Andrew Bridgman / February 6, 2014

Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Fictional Detectives of AllTime

After over 400,000 votes, you (the voters) have solved the greatest mystery of all - who's the greatest fictional detective ever? You found the clues, questioned witnesses, planted evidence, threatened the jury...actually, you used some pretty underhanded methods. Regardless, you got results. And here they are - the 20 greatest fictional detectives of all-time!

20. Professor Layton

Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Fictional Detectives of AllTime

While Professor Layton is, obviously, a professor (teaching Puzzology 101 at Why Does Everything Have To Be Puzzles??? University), the reality is that he's really a detective - solving mysteries and puzzles much more than setting office hours for his students. He's like Indiana Jones but if literally everyone Indy ran into made him steal a relic to answer the simplest questions. The top-hatted professor (along with his usual sidekick, Luke) spends his time running around Europe, solving mysteries through time and space, all while having a collar so popped they should call him Bro-fessor Layton.

Article Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Videogame Sequels of All-Time

By Andrew Bridgman / January 30, 2014

Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Videogame Sequels of AllTime

Ever wonder what the greatest videogame sequels of all-time are? Well, wonder no longer! After 900,000 votes from Dorkly readers and non-readers who just like clicking pictures a lot (see the full results here), we have the greatest number 2's in gaming history.

20. Star Fox 64

Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Videogame Sequels of AllTime

Beginning its life as Star Fox 2 for the SNES, eventually the project was scrapped and moved to the upcoming N64 system, starring a group of 4 animals that - for some reason - were the only ones interested in trying to stop a floating monkey head from destroying the galaxy (seriously, there's an entire army shown at the end that apparently all had shore leave during the game). With diverging mission paths, some great (if basic) multiplayer, and some top-notch meme lines (including my favorite: "Do a spin-type move, Commander McCloud!" - Pepper the Squirrel), StarFox 64 was one of the main reasons to get an N64 in the early days. But on top of all of this, it was the first game to utilize the Rumble Pak (it even came with one!). By simply jamming a 5 pound brick into your controller, you could truly understand how it felt to be a anthropomorphized fox piloting a starship through an asteroid belt.

By Staff / December 19, 2013

Toplist Results: The 25 Greatest Pokemon of AllTime

First, with millions and millions of votes, you picked the top 15 Pokemon from all six generations:

And from those 90 Pokemon, you whittled it down to the top 25 after over 2.2 million votes (see the full results here). But because we've already described every one of these Pokemon, we thought we would give you a little haiku to go along with each one (because, c'mon, you're just here for the results anyways). So here they are, once and for all, never to be disputed, after a fair democratic voting process - the 25 greatest Pokemon of all-time:

Article Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Mortal Kombat Kharacters of All-Time

By Andrew Bridgman / December 13, 2013

Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Mortal Kombat Kharacters of AllTime

After over 900,000 votes, we're narrowed down the Mortal Kombat series to the top 20 kharacters (extremely subtle reference). Did your favorite differently-colored-vest ninja make it? How about your lady-wearing-virtually-no-clothes of choice? Your personal top stupidly-difficult-and-frustrating boss battle? You won't have to wonder long, because the results are below. And don't forget to test your might by complaining how wrong everyone was not to vote for your favorites in the comments.

20. Mileena

Toplist Results: The 20 Greatest Mortal Kombat Kharacters of AllTime

Why should dudes have all the fun? While Mortal Kombat is often derided (mayyybe rightfully) for having a bunch of dude ninjas that are virtually identical-looking (give or take a few color switches), people often forget that Mortal Kombat II introduced the feminine equivalent with Mileena, Kitana, and Jade. One of the most memorable amongst these three ridiculously skimpily-dressed ladies was Mileena, perhaps best remembered for a) being ridiculously skimpily-dressed (although she started out pretty modest compare to her current design) and b) hiding a messed-up demonic mouth under her bandana (much like Bret Michaels). But on top of that, Mileena was just a ridiculously solid fighter from MKII on, since she's really motivated to win the tournament and use her winnings to get some dental work done (or take over the Earthrealm, whatever).

Article Toplist Results: The 15 Greatest Generation VI Pokemon

By Andrew Bridgman / December 4, 2013

Toplist Results: The 15 Greatest Generation VI Pokemon

After 1.5 million votes, the results are in for the best Pokemon from X & Y - a generation that's not even two months old. And the top 15 from Generation 6 is one of the strongest line-ups we've seen yet - and this is from a game with the smallest number of new Pokemon added yet. This was a generation of quality over quantity, and it showed. To help illustrate why each of the Pokemon that made the cut were so popular, we've included a comment from the voting or an email we received.

So here are the (reminder to the Church of Goomy: these results are according to voters, not ME) greatest 15 Pokemon from Generation 6.

15. Goodra

Toplist Results: The 15 Greatest Generation VI Pokemon

The glory of lord Goomy is undeniable.
Plus Goodra evolves from it, and Goodra's pretty good. (Sam Jones)

While the mysteriously popular / completely-understandably popular mini-blob Goomy couldn't quite make the top 15 (despite a concerted effort), it's evolved form - the slightly-drippy dragon Goodra - did. And for a friendly slime dragon (and for people who grew up watching a lot of Double Dare, that is a very appealing description), Goodra holds his own pretty well, although I'm guessing everyone in the comments will still prefer its weaker, appendage-less younger self.
