The release of the 8th film in the main Star Wars series, The Last Jedi, has been met with a great deal of controversy online, particularly amongst "purist" Star Wars fans, who felt that the ways TLJ deviated from their expectations equated to sacrilege. They've been complaining about character motivation, plot holes, undermining the franchise's legacy, and all manner of other silly criticisms of a fun movie series about space battles and laser sword fights. Kelly Marie Tran was harassed off of Instagram, petitions have been filed calling for the movie to be struck from canon, and calls for firing producers have been constant. In short, the Star Wars fandom has morphed into the most toxic and whiny fandom on the internet (and that's REALLY saying something). So we wondered - how would the internet have reacted if The Empire Strikes Back had been released today?
You can probably guess.
