In 2009, Nickelodeon purchased the rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, essentially ending one of the most unlikely successes in independant media in human history. Even though creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird are allowed to create their own comics with the characters, it marked a new era for the fearsome fighting team. Now the turtles are part of an international children's entertainment empire, forever meant to adapt (mutate, if you will) to changing tastes and standards in order to maintain their presence in the minds and wallets of families across the world.
