THE ACTUAL GAME PRESENTATIONS!

undefined

Believe it or not, but Drawfee is hosting a game jam this weekend - 48 hours of weird drawings, hyper-efficient game development, not much sleep, and a whole lotta coffee. Thanks to sponsor Crunchyroll, we were able to lock down a space in NYC to host a huge number of incredible game developers and set ourselves up for a nonstop jam that'll last the whole weekend - and produce ACTUAL PLAYABLE VIDEOGAMES AT THE END (based on bonkers Drawfee ideas).

But how did all of this begin? Rami Ismail (aka co-founder of Vlambeer Games and developer of Nuclear Throne) had been watching Drawfee's Bad JRPG series and thought it would make for a good premise of a game jam - and made the massive mistake of actually tweeting that idea at Drawfee.

Ever since then, we've been jazzed on the idea and been working hard trying to get the idea off the ground - we reached out to Rami about a few things and got him and his partner Adriel Wallick involved. It was a big help that Adriel was a major player in the game jam scene, and already had run a number of jams in the past, including Train Jam (a game jam that LITERALLY TAKES PLACE ON A TRAIN).

Thanks to their unbelievable help and enthusiasm, it's actually happening.

After we had gotten a number of unbelievably talented game developers to agree to participate, the Drawfee crew filmed some videos with each team to figure out what their game jam core idea should be. The results were....very typical for Drawfee (which is to say very weird and funny, and dear god I cannot imagine how any game devs will make these into something real in 48 hours but damn I wanna watch):

Designing the Ultimate Kissing Game (with Jo Fu and Conrad Kreyling)

Designing the Most Stressful Tower Defense Game (with Jarryd Huntley)

Designing The First Video Game for Old People (with Jerry Belich)

Designing An RPG...That's Actually Good (with Teddy Dief)

Designing The Most Epic Game About Feet (with Jolie Menzel)

DAY 1: EVERYTHING IS FREEZING BUT WE'RE JAMMING ANYWAYS

undefined

On a very chilly, snowy day in New York City, the game jam began...except the heat in our space is busted, so everything is extremely cold.

Still, the devs all arrived safely, everyone was insanely nice and excited, and things got kicked off in a wonderful fashion as the teams made their presentations and the Drawfee crew livestreamed some early thoughts, ideas, and monstrosities delivered courtesy of Julia:

DAY 2: DEAR GOD THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING

DAY 3: THE FINAL JAMMENING

Turns out game jams are cool, exhausting, weird, and extremely fun. THE MORE YOU KNOW ~~~~*.

Things continued apace, food was eaten, games were finished up, art was created, and the jam came to a glorious conclusion.

Check out the livestreams - including the GRAND FINALE where all the games were unveiled:
