It's been over 20 years since Square almost singlehandedly reshaped the world of console gaming back in 1997 with an ambitious project that not only showed the world what JRPGs were capable of, but also the grand worlds that can be stored on large-capacity optical disks...
For many it was the first time engaging with a story that mature (I mean, you know, at the time) despite it being "just a game" and the collected hours sunk into Final Fantasy VII's narrative are almost uncountable.
