In addition to our first look at The Last Jedi, this year's annual Star Wars Celebration also brought us a new trailer for Battlefront II. The multiplayer focused shooter was recently rebooted a couple of years back, and while it had a solid foundation, it was somewhat lacking in features. So a lot of fans were pretty pumped to sneak a peek at a full-fledged story mode told from the Empire's point of view post-Return of the Jedi.

Response has been pretty good, especially as far as EA games go. There is one exception: The fact that the campaign stars a female protagonist. Or uh, is that antagonist? Either way, this inevitably set off some of the internet's saltiest fuckboys.

Yikes. I censored most of the usernames and profile pictures here, with the exception of that last anime avatar -- just so you know what we're dealing with.

Now, to be clear, the vast majority of commenters have no issue with the new character, presumably because there is no issue to be had. But in almost every part of the internet, there are a few whiners that absolutely cannot handle it. A lot of them justify their hatred by accusing Disney of shoving their "feminist agenda" down their throats.

It's kind of hard to tell where exactly they're picking up these "SJW" overtones in the trailer. Nothing in the clip communicates anything to the viewer other than "You are the Empire, avenge Emperor Palpatine's death by eradicating Rebel scum, also Luke Skywalker is there."

Some folks seem to have taken offense at the mere idea of a female Stormtrooper -- much less a commander.

It would almost be kind of funny watching them squirm to figure out a legitimate reason to have a problem with the trailer if it weren't extremely depressing. A lot of the arguments boil down to "I don't have a problem with female protaginists EXCEPT the part where I actually do have a problem with that."

Then there are those that admit that the amount of females in Star Wars-related material is making them just plain uncomfortable. They see a universe where women are taking over Star Wars and there will be nothing left for dudes, intentionally forgetting the first six movies and the Han Solo (and potentially Boba Fett) origin story hitting theaters soon.

Yet another shade of complaint in this neverending trough of sour piss dares to allege that "shooters are for guys, ipso facto nobody wants to play as women." Ironclad logic!

Imagine being so fragile that you can't play a game about space wizards because the character you never see during gameplay is the opposite gender.

Yes, people like to see themselves in the media they consume. That's reasonable! But if your likeness is not front and center, it should by no means be a dealbreaker the magnitude of which causes you to faceplant in the aisles of the internet and throw a tantrum. Millions of people who aren't beefy white dudes with brown hair have gotten along just fine when they play games starring beefy white dudes with brown hair up til now, so you can get up off the floor. Seriously guys, you're making a scene.
