Listen, it's understood that we live in an age where franchise reboots are not only common, they're expected. Batman was rebooted twice in the last 15 years, same with Spider-Man. And hey - the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise has surprisingly become one of the best film series in recent memory, so it's not all bad or anything.

But get this - Warner Bros. wants to remake The Matrix...without the Wachowskis.

Frankly, remaking/rebooting/re-whatevering The Matrix is a crummy idea - the original is less than 20 years old, still awesome, and still basically a perfect film. Go ahead and rewatch it - even without the surprise and mystery of "What is the Matrix?", it entirely holds up. The sequels are....also films that exist.

Apparently the new Matrix will be helmed by Zak Penn, co-writer of decent movies X2 and The Avengers, and also some insanely bad garbage like Elektra, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Inspector Gadget. And while I'm sure Penn is a fine screenwriter, fuuuuuuck all of this.
