DC's second film in their attempt to create their own expanded universe (we're not counting Man of Steel), Suicide Squad, is still many months away - but at least it already has the coolest poster of any superhero film in recent memory!
Director David Ayer tweeted the new poster out recently, and also teased an upcoming trailer (which is rumored to be set to Bohemian Rhapsody, so good job on keeping the marketing for this thing weirdly unique, DC!). And instead of the usual "awkwardly photoshopped famous actors" that's become the norm for most movies (and a lot of Marvel ones), not a single actor is actually featured on the poster! Instead, it's illustrated with images of skulls made to represent each member of the Suicide Squad (and the Joker, who probably won't be on the squad but WILL be causing fanboys to scream enraged at Jared Leto for the foreseeable future).
The only real knock against the poster (except that it looks sorta like the kind of thing you'd have plastered on your t-shirt when you were a teen at the skatepark) is the hashtag before the title. C'mon, DC. At LEAST make a #squadgoals joke if you're gonna do that.
On top of the main poster, DC released individual posters - if you're the kinda person who is REALLY hankering for a Rick Flag skull illustration poster for a movie that you haven't seen yet.
And - hey! - his mouth sorta looks like a bat! Pretty clever! I mean, it was also clever when The Dark Knight did literally the exact same thing about a decade ago, but....uh....nevermind.
All in all, a pretty solid ad campaign - it's not Deadpool-level quite yet, but it's pretty promising.
