Tina Fey has made a declaration; she is never going to wear a complicated fancy dress for a late night talk show ever again. To emphasize the point she stripped off her blue and black (NOT white and gold) dress with the help of David Letterman, revealing the layers of undergarments designed to squinch and squash everything into place. It's an impressive William Shatner-esque level of girdling at work and nearly every female celebrity on TV is wearing some similar getup. The Late Show with David Letterman is actually well known for its strict dress code, even the shlubbiest comedians have to up their game if they want to appear onstage at the Ed Sullivan theater, so the symbolism of Fey's stripdown is very much intentional.
