In the city of Hurghada, there's a large market/bazaar called the Cleopatra Bazar, which features a variety of shops and a very, uh, "authentic-feeling" ancient Egyptian aesthetic. Except for one tiny thing - they've recently started featuring Twitch Plays Pokemon fan art prominently in one of their windows.

At a first glance, nothing really sems off - after all, it certainly LOOKS a lot like Egyptian hieroglyphs, right? Well, until you look a LITTLE closer and start noticing the Helix Fossil, Lord Helix, Bird Jesus, and a million other references to the infamous playthrough of Pokemon Red from last year. This is either a pretty embarrassing mistake on the Cleopatra Bazar's end, or they're just REALLY into memes about Jay Leno the Rattata and All-Terrain Venomoth.

All of this was discovered by redditor Hesser - and (unless we're being taken for fools) appears to be legit. The specific fan art was taken from the ridiculously-talented Whoa Constrictor, who titled the piece The Origin of Ancient Helixism (and you can buy a print of it here).

So the next time you're in Egypt, make sure to stop by the mall to check out last year's best Pokemon memes.
