We all remember when the internet collectively lost their poop at the unveiling of the "crossguard" lightsaber design from The Force Awakens. Well now Hasbro has made it known that this new generation of Star Wars fans are going to be the most gonzo jedi ever.
The Star Wars Bladebuilders system is an expandable set of plastic handles, connectors, and "blades" that snap together into all sorts of canonically dubious configurations for your child swordfighting needs. How you feel about the toys will vary on your respect of Star Wars tradition vs. your need to acknowledge that a build-your-own laser trident sounds radical.
The "base" set of saber parts will set you back $49.99 and will be available in Fall 2015. Additional parts will range in price from $9.99 to $19.99 (depending on size and complexity) and will come in "Darth Vader", "Obi Wan", and "Luke Skywalker" flavors.
Does this mean that the new Star Wars films are going to feature more variations on the lightsaber design? Or is this a case of "just a fun toy idea because toys are fun and come on man just relax I'm sure the new movies will be fine"? YOU DECIDE.
