3) Jade Empire

Where to buy:
PC (Special Edition): $15 (Steam), $15 (gog.com), $15 (Amazon)
Xbox 360 (Regular): $10 ( Xbox Live Arcade)

The Quick Similarities:
-Fantasy
-RPG
-Romance

Why it's a good alternative:

The game originally came out 2005 but the Special Edition release came out in 2007.  Despite being a little older, it still holds up. The combat is satisfying, the atmosphere is great, and the plot is entertaining enough. It has a nice amount of customization like Dragon Age and there are even romance options (for those of you into those kinds of things) just like Dragon Age. The game is made by Bioware so the similarities are easy to see.

4) Gothic II: Golden Edition

undefined

Where to buy:
PC: $10 (Steam), $10 (Amazon), $10 (HumbleBundle)

The Quick Similiarities:
-Swords, magic
-Fantasy
-RPG
-Adventure
-Open World

Why it's a good alternative:

Gothic II is a game where you think everyone still likes it just because they grew up with it but even if you've never played it before, it's still great...  just don't expect new age graphics obviously as the game came out in 2002. There are a crazy amount of spells and weapons for you to get with tons of missions and tons of NPCs who all have different things to do. The game is about 12 hours long and doesn't demand a lot from your computer so you don't need a fancy rig to play it.
