2. Julian Glover

Julian Glover's name belongs up there with the likes of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as "old British guy who happens to be in a whole bunch of nerdy franchises," except Glover's usually stuck to the background, remaining an eternal "that guy." He first entered the nerd-scene with his memorable role as General Veers in The Empire Strikes Back, the guy leading the assault against the rebel base on Hoth (and who gets killed* by a snowspeeder crashing into his AT-AT).

*according to the Star Wars extended universe, he narrowly escapes death, but is confined to a hoverchair, because OF COURSE HE DID, EXTENDED UNIVERSE.

There's another role you may remember him a little better for though...

Glover was also Walter Donovan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - aka the evil businessman-Nazi collaborator who chose poorly and drank out of the wrong cup, turning into an insta-mummy for his foolishness.

These days, Glover is on the most popular nerd-show around, playing Maester Pycelle in Game of Thrones - a man of medicine and advisor to the royalty of Westeros (whoever that may be at any given time).

But there's more! He provided the voice of Aragog, the giant spider-pal of Hagrid in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, as well as Scaroth in the Doctor Who serial City of Death.

You know what? All of these casting directors who went with Julian Glover chose wisely.
