Batgirl's gone through a lot of changes in her day - some good, some bad, some involving the Joker sadistically paralyzing her, and some amazing. This one falls into that last category - the character most iconically portrayed by Alicia Silverstone (KIDDING) is getting a new creative team and an image overhaul, starting in October with Batgirl #35. The charge, being led by Babs Tarr and Brenden Fletcher, has led to this retro-but-fun redesign - and it's one of the more refreshing moves by DC Comics lately.

Yep - Batgirl's finally moving past the grimness that no one was really excited by and adopting a more relatable, engaging, and possibly (gasp) FUN tone.

Per writer Cameron Stewart:

Batgirl is a terrific character, she's not motivated by tragedy or revenge, she's fights for justice because she believes it's the right thing to do. She's whip-smart, kick-ass in a fight, and there's a sense of fun and excitement around her that I think has made her an enduring character.
