Article 8 Things You Didn't Know About Stan Lee

By Staff / March 30, 2014

1. He Is the Single Highest-Grossing Filmmaker In History

12 Things You Didnt Know About Stan Lee

Since Stan Lee gets an Executive Producer credit on pretty much every Marvel film ever (including ones for characters he didn't create, like Captain America) and Marvel films have made A LOT of money (The Avengers alone is the 3rd highest grossing film ever), Stan Lee movies have made over 11 billion dollars. Take THAT, James Cameron.

2. He Made His Comic Book Debut As a Text Filler

12 Things You Didnt Know About Stan Lee

The comic was 'Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge' in Captain America Comics #3 (May 1941). On top of it being Stan's debut, it was ALSO the debut of Cap's signature move - throwing his shield like a frisbee that would bounce back. This was the first time he used the name Stan Lee (his birth name was Stan Lieber).

Article Must-See Comic Artists That Will Be At C2E2

By Jake Young / April 19, 2014

Fun Fact: Comic Book Conventions have Comic Books.

At this year's C2E2 they're bringing in some real heavy hitters from the world of comic art. It's these folks that helped build the worlds, characters and imagery that are the backbone of the mass-media franchises we know and love. Here's just a small sample of the amazing storytellers that will be appearing in Chicago this year.

Adi Granov

There's no artist more responsible for bringing Iron Man into the 21st Century than Adi Granov. Starting with the Extremis storyline by Warren Ellis and working as a key concept artist for Marvel Studios, Adi's Shellhead is the definitive edition.

Article 10 Controllers That Were Too Dumb for This World

10 Controllers That Were Too Dumb for This World

Microsoft boasted that it had spent "hundreds of millions of dollars" developing the controller for the Xbox One, assumedly because "glossy black plastic" and "textured rubber thumbpads" are the most valuable materials on earth. But there's a reason why they were so cautious about their gamepads. The controller is only point of contact between you and your games, and if the connection isn't precise and comfortable, then the experience is irreparably ruined. I mean, "someone brought up politics at Thanksgiving" ruinedThe controller is key and that's why we're pointing out some of the dumbest examples from across gaming history.

Article 10 Insane Game of Thrones Fanfics

By Mark Hill / April 4, 2014

10 Insane Game of Thrones Fanfics

It's no surprise that a franchise as popular as Game of Thrones (or A Song of Ice and Fire, if you're part of the superior book reading breed) has generated its fair share of fanfiction. What may surprise you is just how... creative some fans are. Amidst the countless stories where Daenerys flies her dragons to Westeros, kills all the bad guys and has awesome sex with Robb Stark are tales that will make you question if you were even watching the same TV show as the writer. So if you need some new reading material and don't like having a firm grasp on your sanity, check out...

1. The Bodyguard

10 Insane Game of Thrones Fanfics

via sashaudinov

"So when that little prick had ordered him to take care of another person that night, Sandor had been furious...

...Because Joffrey had sent him to take care of a singer."

Sansa Stark and Sandor Clegane are a common fanfic pairing, because there's nothing more beautiful than the love between a young teenage girl and a violent, alcoholic, emotionally (and physically!) scarred sociopath. The Bodyguard takes their love a ridiculous step further by moving the characters to a modern setting, where Sansa is a pop star and Oscar nominee who's engaged to be married to presidential candidate Joffrey, in what has to be the worst democracy ever. But Sansa slowly falls in love with Joffrey's bodyguard, Sandor, and they eventually consummate their love after surviving a terrorist attack lead by Arya. It's the perfect story for Thrones fans who also wish that they could masturbate to House of Cards. Oh, and good luck watching any more Sansa or Sandor scenes without getting a Whitney Houston song stuck in your head.

Article 'Batman vs. Superman' vs. 'Captain America 3'

By Andrew Bridgman / April 8, 2014

Captain America 3 Talks To Batman vs Superman

As of right now, both Batman vs. Superman and Captain America 3 are due to be released on May 6, 2016. That's right - two of the biggest superhero movies ever, both planned for the same day. Marvel originally claimed this date for an unnamed movie - so DC planned their huge crossover film for the same day, expecting Marvel to blink. But with the success of The Winter Soldier, Marvel went ahead and announced that Captain America 3 would indeed be released then.

  1. Batman vs. Superman

Ooo...awkward. This is our date - sorry Captain America 3.

  2. Capt. America 3

No way, Batfleck vs. Hopeman, Marvel was savin' this spot for me.

  3. Batman vs. Superman

Well, uh, technically they were just saving it for "Untitled Marvel Film." That doesn't really count.

  4. Capt. America 3

Sure it does - now make way for Captain America 3: I'm a Better Superman Than Henry Cavill's City-Wrecking Saiyan

  5. Batman vs. Superman

You're not really calling yourself that, are you?

  6. Capt. America 3

Psh, who knows? Haven't even started writing the damn thing.

  7. Batman vs. Superman

Yeah, that's sorta the thing - number 2 JUST came out - don't you think it's a little early to call a spot for the third one?

  8. Capt. America 3

That's how Captain America 3 rolls, son. Pre-emptive strike up in this house!

  9. Batman vs. Superman

But don't you know how much money you'll lose?

  10. Capt. America 3

Are you kidding me? Have you seen the box office numbers? We got more green on us than the Hulk's dick.

Article The 10 Best Videogame Masks

By Andrew Bridgman / April 7, 2014

The 10 Best Videogame Masks

In the world of videogames, it doesn't need to be Halloween to put on a mask and go take candy from strangers (or whatever personal belongs you can find in the treasure chests they have lying around). Videogame masks come in all shapes and sizes and can do all sorts of things - from hiding someone's identity to LITERALLY BRINGING ABOUT THE END OF THE WORLD. Also, sometimes they can make doors kill you.

Anyways, these are our top 10 masks in videogame history...

10. Handsome Jack's Mask (Borderlands 2)

The 10 Best Videogame Masks

Handsome Jack's mask is a pretty weird one - because, well, it's pretty much just his face. Or, rather, how his face is SUPPOSED to look, if not for the deformed Vault-style branded his actual face got. The mask says pretty much everything about the character of Handsome Jack - how self-obsessed he is, how vain he is, and how OUT OF HIS MIND he is. And since Handsome Jack is one of the best things about an already-great game, we gotta give the mask some credit.

9. Psycho Mantis Gas Mask (Metal Gear Solid)

The 10 Best Videogame Masks

Psycho Mantis - which, REMINDER, is just a cool-as-hell name - has a mask that serves basically no purpose (other than to hide the scars from when he burned down his childhood village). Mantis' reasoning for the mask is to block out the thoughts of others from his mind, since he's read enough minds to be generally repulsed by humanity in general. There's no real reason it has to be a gas mask - other than it looks really cool for this floating guy in a gas mask magically intuit what other Playstation games you've been playing.

Article There's a Glow-in-the-Dark Art Show In Brooklyn

By Jake Young / March 27, 2014

Bottleneck Gallery is an art space that has a knack for putting on shows that really hit you in the nostalgia. This month they've brought back one of their most popular shows with "When the Lights Go Out 2", in which every artist must incorporate glow-in-the-dark pigments into their pieces. The result is a whole gallery that literally transforms under darkness. The exhibit only runs until April 9th, but you can buy artwork and prints at the Bottleneck Gallery website, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity.

We've highlighted a few of the works that caught our attention.
