Everything You Need To Know About Tonights Community Season 5, Episode 3

This episode is titled "Basic Intergluteal Numismatics."

Intergluteal meaning "between buttocks" and numismatics meaning "currency, primarily coins". And, uh, basic meaning..."basic". So basically (see what I did there?) - Coins Between Butt-Cheeks.

...and they delivered.

The episode is written by newcomer Erik Sommers.

This is Erik Sommers' first episode of Community - previously writing for American Dad! (including the stand-out Roger episode, "Ricky Spanish") and Happy Endings (including the delightful fist-bump war episode, "P&P Romance Factory").

This is the official description from NBC:

A BRAZEN BANDIT INVADES GREENDALE - SURREPTITIOUSLY DROPPING COINS DOWN THE BACKS OF PEOPLE'S PANTS - Everyone is up in arms when an anonymous bandit starts dropping coins down people's pants. While Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) mobilizes the school to investigate, Jeff (Joel McHale) and Annie (Alison Brie) pursue their own theories - methodically interrogating staff members. When someone eventually confesses, the school heaves a sigh of relief, but Jeff thinks there is more to the story than meets the eye.

Donald Glover's gonna be gone soon. Gotta use these gifs while we can.

Here's what they AREN'T telling you:

The "brazen bandit" is pretty clearly the "ass-crack bandit" (as shouted by Garrett in the season 5 trailer), with Troy being a major victim, thus confusing his love of butts. But this isn't a new thing - when Annie was running for class president (in season 2's Intro To Political Science), she had made a campaign promise that "the assailant known only as the ass-crack bandit will be brought to justice." Apparently the bandit's been at this for over 3 years.

Way to drop the ball, South Park.

And there will be some returning faces:

John Oliver, aka Professor Duncan (and former Jon Stewart replacement / Daily Show correspondent), returns to Community for the first time since season 2 - where he last appeared in "Applied Anthropology and the Culinary Arts," when Shirley finally gave birth to her non-Chang baby.

Dino Stamatopoulos, aka Star-Burns, makes his triumphant return, after faking his death in the Law & Order parody-episode "Basic Lupine Urology" and briefly appearing (with a blonde wig) in the season 3 finale, "Introduction to Finality."

As well as (at least) one new one:

That's right, acapella-enthusiast piano-man Ben Folds (née Five) will be guest-starring as a new character named Professor Bublitz. Hopefully he won't bum us out by reminding everyone what "Brick" is REALLY about.
